Pursue Doctorate in Nursing in India

Earlier Indian nurses were  sent abroad for Ph. D programme. PhD programmes in nursing was first started in India in 1992. Centers include :

Eligibility criteria for Doctorate in Nursing

M.Phil (Nursing) or M.Sc (Nursing) or a Post Graduate degree in nursing recognized by INC with 3 years teaching or Clinical Experience after M.Sc (N)

The candidates should have passed M.Sc Nursing with a minimum of 60% marks.

Candidates working in Teaching Institution/Hospital/Community Center.

May or may not published articles in journal

Criteria for selection for Doctorate in Nursing

Selection for the Ph.D. Programme will be based on:

Merit in the entrance test (90 marks). Minimum pass marks for Entrance is 54%.

Candidates Possessing  M.Phil* in nursing ( 5 marks ).

Publications* (5 marks). Shall be submitted alongwith application form

The course duration is for  regular PhD course is 3 years and for part time is 4 years

Eligibility for admission in to Doctorate programme in Nursing

• Nursing professionals who have completed their M.Phil degree with 55 per cent marks from a recognised University. (50 per cent for SC and ST candidates)
• M.Sc.Nursing,with 55 per cent marks and five year of teaching/industry/administration/professional/clinical experience.(50 per cent marks for SC and ST candidates)

Attendance

Students will be required to complete seventy-five percent attendance in theory counselling to become eligible for appearing in Term-end Examination. Similarly, they will be required to complete ninety percent attendance in practical contact sessions to become eligible for appearing in practical examination.

Assignments

The assignments will cover all types of questions (long answer type, short answer type, objective type, multiple choice questions and case studies). The assignments will carry thirty percent weightage. Students will be required to obtain fifty percent marks as pass percentage in each assignment separately. Each assignment will carry 100 marks. In the final result assignments will carry thirty percent weightage.

Term-end Examination

Term-end examination is the major component of the evaluation system and if carries seventy percent weightage in the Final result. The University conducts term-end examination twice a year i.e., in June and December. They can take the examination only after completion of the course, failing which students can take the same in December or June of subsequent years years within the total span of the programme. In case any student fail to get a pass score in the Term-end Examination, the person will be eligible to reappear at the next Term-end Examination for that course as and when if is held, within the total span of the Programme.
